Red Hot Chili Pepper 5K, Harvey County Chili Cook-off and an Artisans fair *Saturday, September 29th 2018 – Newton, Ks

 

Meet your friends for the Red Hot Chili Pepper 5K, Harvey County Chili Cook-off and Artisans Fair, Saturday, September 29th 2018.

The Little Pepper run is $20 and begins at 8:30 a.m. The Red Hot Chili Pepper 5K will begin at 9 a.m. and follow Sand Creek bike path.

Cost of the 5K is $40 and includes a ticket to the chili cook-off in the registration price. T-shirts and medals will be available to runners who register in advance.

 Race day registration for those events opens at 7:30 a.m. at Fifth & Poplar Streets in Newton, Ks.

The Harvey County United Way Chili Cook-off will follow the race, with gates opening at 11 a.m. one block from the start/finish line. Sixth Street will be closed from Main to Poplar and feature nearly two dozen chili vendors.

Advance tickets are $5 in advance and are available at www.harveyunitedway.org and various Newton businesses. Tickets will be available at the gate for $8.

Gates will be open for the chili cook-off from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Ticket holders will receive a wrist band and various chili creations offered by participating groups in individual sample cups at each booth. The event typically draws more than two dozen organizations and businesses to serve an array of chili varieties.

Various musicians and the Newton High School drum line will also perform at this event!  

Chili makers will compete against each other for two awards: The Pride of the Prairie, determined by cook-off judges, and The People’s Choice, a tally of cash votes at each competitor which are donated to United Way.

Bottles of water will also be available for purchase inside the gates.

Meanwhile, an Artisan Fair sponsored by Gathered Goods will also be open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. in the parking lot behind the shop, near the chili cook-off.

Admission to the artisan fair is free. Fair vendors will offer a wide variety of handmade items including jewelry, stained glass, home décor, furniture, baby items, clothing, quilts, toys, soaps and lotions, and holiday items.

September 29th Schedule of Events 

8:30 a.m.: Little Pepper Run starts at Fifth & Poplar streets, Newton, Ks 

9 a.m.: Red Hot Chili Pepper 5K starts

9 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Artisan Fair in the parking lot at 100 W. Broadway, Newton, Ks 

11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.: 12th annual Harvey County United Way Chili Cook-off
