Tradition rich show draws people from all over the Midwest to help raise funds for two Local Wichita charities.
Celebrating the 60thth year this January, the annual Starbird-Devlin Rod & Customs Charities Car Show aims for their biggest show yet at Century II in downtown Wichita, January 20th – 22nd!
The annual car show that has been a Wichita tradition since 1957 when Darryl Starbird started the show. In 2011, the show was purchased by a new local ownership group, Cars for Charities Co. a 501(c)(3) organization and turned the car show into a charity event.
The 2016 show set an all-time record charitable donation for the show raising a total of $150,000 for their two local Wichita charities. Proceeds from the show were distributed equally to Starkey, Inc. and The Arc of Sedgwick County – each receiving $75,000 donations because of the show and its fundraising efforts.
Once again, the three-day show anticipates strong attendance with many attendees from outside of the Wichita city limits. The tradition started by the new ownership group of letting children 11 & under in Free has bolstered the show to a strong family event where grandparents, parents and children attended together. “It’s very gratifying to see two and sometimes three generations of family walking around the show together reminiscing over these wonderful classic cars that have been brought in from all over the country,” said Tim Devlin, board president, Cars for Charities and owner of Devlin Rod and Customs in Wichita.
“Then to top it off to be able to give a sizeable donation each year to our local charities and bring visitors and tourism to our great city makes all the hard work and sacrifice of our volunteer’s worth it. We urge the entire city to come out and support this show. Simply by attending the event, your dollars stay directly in this community and help support our charities. This isn’t just another car show, this family event helps make the lives of individuals in Wichita and Kansas much, much better by the work of our charities.”
