Faith and Life Bookstore Newton Kansas Author Event

Melissa TaggContemporary fiction author Melissa Tagg will be coming all the way Iowa to sign copies of her newest book, “From the Start”.   Reminiscent of the witty dialogue and strong characters of Hollywood films from the 40s and 50s,”From the Start” is a charming book filled with romance, laugh out loud humor, and small town charm that weaves faith throughout even while dealing with some of life’s tougher challenges.  Kate Walker used to believe in true love and happily ever after. While her own love life may have left her brokenhearted, it hasn’t kept her from churning out made-for-TV romance movie screenplays…until a major career slump and a longing to do something meaningful send her running back to her hometown of Maple Valley. Permanently sidelined by an injury, former NFL quarterback Colton Greene is temporarily hiding out in a friend’s hometown to avoid the media and the reminders of all he’s lost. Maple Valley seems like the perfect place to learn how to adjust to normal life. The only trouble is he’s never really done normal before.
While Kate plays things safe and Colton is all about big risks and grand gestures, they both get what it’s like to desperately need direction in life. An unexpected project gives them both a chance to jumpstart their new lives, but old wounds and new dreams are hard to ignore. Starting over wasn’t part of the plan, but could it be the best thing that’s ever happened to them?   This is the first in a new series for Tagg that promises to be one to follow!

Metaphase Novel

Chip Reece lives in the Wichita area with his wife and son.  He has written the graphic novel called “Metaphase”, with pictures from Kelly Williams. Metaphase is an all-ages graphic novel inspired by the author’s real-life superhero son, who has Down syndrome. Lash is one of the greatest superheroes of all time, but his life is forever changed when his son, Ollie, is born with all the physical vulnerabilities that come along with having heart defects and Down syndrome. As Ollie gets older he becomes tired of his dad’s over-protection and unwillingness to include him in his superhero adventures.  Ollie has lived his life listening to the world tell him he will be limited in what he can do and with the added frustration of being compared to a dad with unlimited abilities. Fueled by his desire to be “”super””, Ollie turns to Meta-Makers – a company that claims it can give anyone superpowers through chromosome tampering. Unfortunately, Ollie’s decision may be disastrous for the greatest hero of all time… his dad!

Kim Vogel Sawyer is a best-selling author highly acclaimed for her gentle stories of hope.  Kim is returning to  Faith & Life with her newest book, “When Grace Sings”, second in the Zimmerman Restoration Trilogy.  Kim Vogel SawyerWhen trouble roars into quiet Arborville, Alexa and Anna-Grace find themselves the target for discord and exposed secrets. Can they continue to seek the God of all grace amidst the fog of confusion? Alexa Zimmerman wonders if the Old Order Mennonite community in Arborville, Kansas will ever fully accept her. Her family roots here aren’t what anyone thought when she first arrived, but she is hopeful that her culinary and hospitality skills will win the skeptics over. The bed-and-breakfast she s operating needs to succeed so Alexa agrees to allow Briley Forrester, the hotshot reporter from Chicago, to stay as a long-term boarder not knowing his real motives for being amongst the Plain folk. But when Alexa agrees to host her cousin Anna-Grace Braun, the presence of extended family brings out Alexa’s insecurities and sets Briley on the trail to uncovering a web of hidden truths. Plans for a secure future and the sweetness of young romance hang in the balance when Alexa and Anna-Grace have to face that their secrets are interconnected, binding the two in ways they could not have imagined. They must trust in a loving, heavenly Father and His plan for their futures.

The writers of Wings of Hope Publishing Company, K. Marie Libel, Connie Stevens, Darlene Wells, Jalana Franklin, Eileen Key, Marjorie Vawter, & Dr. Ralph Vogel,  have compiled two collections of Novellas together.   “Threads of Time”:  A collection of seven Christian romantic novellas about a very special quilt—one intended to grace the marriage bed of a young couple but never fulfilling its original purpose—which travels through many hands and decades, lending comfort to its temporary owners before being passed on.  The second collection is “A Place of Refuge”:   A cabin constructed by Scottish immigrants in the mid-1870s becomes a place of rest, restoration, and refuge for weary travelers over the decades. Enjoy seven stories featuring one log cabin in the beautiful mountains of Wyoming, and find your place of refuge, as well.  Two of these authors, Darlene Wells & Connie Stevens also have other books that they have written that will be available for purchase and signing.

Join us for a Saturday morning filled with laughter, prizes (a prize drawing every 15 minutes), food, and fun!
